Benedict Freitag was born in Zurich in 1952 where he also was raised. After graduating from school he lived and toured with his rock band in Germany and Netherland.
He started his career as an actor in 1980 at the Schiller Theater in Berlin. Since then Benedict Freitag has acted regularly in TV shows and series. However, he continuosly interrupts his TV works in order to impress people on the big screen or on the theater stage.
During the shoot of Der Unsichtbare in 1987 he met the singer Nena with whom he lived for many years. He has three childen with Nena. Benedict Freitag lives in Zurich.
